Summer Carnival at Maypole Primary School

What a delightful way to spend a sunny, breezy summer afternoon at school, with more than 400 children participating in our unique Carnival celebration!

The Carnival was inspired by our wonderful Headteacher, Mrs. Virdi, who wanted to bring our community together and celebrate inclusivity and diversity through music and dance. Our talented Maypole children showcased performances representing various countries from around the world.

We focused on cultures from each continent: the Caribbean, Brazil, India, Denmark, Greece, South Africa, and the USA! Each year group had the fun task of choosing a song and dance that showcased their country.  The hard work really paid off as their dancing was incredible and many of the children dazzled us in their colourful traditional costumes!

We were especially excited to have a surprise guest, Dexter Hercules - Ed Sheeran's drummer - who brought his drum kit and treated us to an incredible performance, complete with a thrilling drum solo! And we all loved the teachers’ dance display, which got lots of cheers and applause from the children and families!

Everyone who came to the Carnival agreed that the children were absolutely fantastic! The smiles from parents, carers, and friends in our community lit up the day and kept the rain away.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who made our first-ever Carnival such a success: the PTA for setting up a refreshment stall, the teachers for their dedication and hard work, our pupils and all the parents, carers, families, and community members for coming out to support us. We couldn’t have done it without you!
