Double Celebration at Maypole Primary School!
Back
On Thursday, May 8th, Maypole Primary School hosted a fantastic day of festivities.
We celebrated the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II with various in-class activities and discussions. Students reflected on the joy felt by children in 1945 when Britain lined the streets to mark the end of the war and expressed gratitude to the brave servicemen and women who fought to protect our country. The theme for the day was the national colours of the United Kingdom, so our students came dressed in red, white, and blue -there were some amazing outfits!
In addition to this historical celebration, we wanted to welcome the arrival of late spring/early summer by teaching our Year 1 and Year 2 students how to maypole dance! This activity brought back fond memories for our staff, some of whom were avid maypole dancers in their school days during the 1980s and 1990s. The children had a fantastic time learning the dance, which requires many coordination skills and resulted in lots of giggles and smiles!
Both students and staff agreed that the school maypole will now be removed from its cupboard and used more regularly!
