We are delighted to have received national recognition by Bridget Phillipson, Secretary of State for Education, for the exceptional academic progress made for our disadvantaged pupils at the end of the 2024/25 academic year. This achievement positions Maypole Primary among the top-performing schools nationally.

Shern Virdi, Headteacher at Maypole Primary, noted, “This recognition is of great significance to the entire school community, as it acknowledges the exceptional outcomes achieved for disadvantaged pupils, including those supported through pupil premium, SEND, and looked-after children."

Shern continued, “When I first joined, I spoke about my commitment to embedding inclusion in all that we do, about adapting our perceptions, strengthening our relational approach and working alongside our communities.  To receive such thoughtful recognition in such a short space of time is incredibly affirming.

Maypole Primary has a long and successful history of educating and caring for children in the local community for over a century. The school expanded from a single-form to a two-form entry a decade ago to meet the needs of the growing community. This recent recognition has been celebrated across the entire school community, as it exemplifies the collective dedication, care, and professionalism of every staff member. Such positive impact stems from Maypole’s unwavering commitment to ensuring every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to achieve their full potential.

We aim to share our successful practices not only with the three other schools in the IAM Trust, but also to serve as a valued educational leader promoting effective methods, building strong networks, encouraging collaboration, and supporting higher standards throughout the sector.

As part of its commitment as a Rights Respecting School, Maypole Primary was recently invited by Dartford MP Jim Dickson to visit the Houses of Parliament. The school’s Rights Respecting Ambassadors, along with Year 6 Head Pupils, had the unique opportunity to tour various committee rooms and historic halls and a scenic pic of the Thames!
